The operating filtration in the bypass is common method to keep the hydraulic fluid at a certain level of cleanliness. The combination of pump and appropriately rated filter circulates the oil independent from the overall system under constant conditions and unloads the filters in the main flow of the system in this way.
These bypass filters also operate when no oil is transported in the main system.
